Organizing Your School Supply List

First things first, it’s important to get an idea of what kinds of categories you need to shop for before the first day of school. Here’s our short list of categories:

  • School supplies and organizers to bring to school
  • At home homework station supplies and organizers
  • Calendar area at home to keep track of weekly tasks and appointments
  • Kitchen organization to make routines easier
  • Ways to organize getting ready for school, such as clothes organization

These categories help us think about what we’ll need to make the transition easier for both us and our kids, but also make sure we don’t get overwhelmed by all the things we need.

Our Favorite School Supplies

We love Amazon for our back to school shopping with the endless options for all our kids and quick shipping to make our lives easier.

You can find all of our favorite back to school supplies, including backpacks, water bottles, and lunch boxes in our Back to School Idea List.

Setting Up a Productive Homework Station

Back to school season can be a lot to get used to because not only are you trying to get out the door quickly in the morning, but now there is homework and activities that are going on in the after school hours.

That’s why having a dedicated homework station for after school can really help your kids focus, making sure their homework gets done without all the stress.

The trick? Choosing the right spot.

It’s gotta be quiet enough to encourage concentration but still close enough so you can swoop in when they need help.

And, of course, it has to stay clutter-free to foster the focus we want our kids to have during homework time.

Here are a few of our quick tips for keeping this area organized:

  • Declutter before school starts by sorting out what’s necessary and ditching the distractions. A clean desk? Check. Essential supplies within arm’s reach? Double check.
  • Label everything, because honestly, finding a pen shouldn’t feel like a treasure hunt. Clear labels mean everything has its place, making clean-up a breeze.

Organizing Meals for Back to School Days

Ah yes, the dreaded meal planning.

Isn’t it amazing how knowing what’s on the menu for breakfast, lunch, and even those after-school snacks can literally lift the weight off your shoulders?

We like to use a magnetic whiteboard, but some other fun items are this sticky note hanging organizer or if you love doing things digitally, the Skylight Calendar is really cool.

We also love using reusable lunch containers and this insulated water bottles to help keep our kids hydrated.

Plus, if you want to keep the kitchen organized, we found this awesome stackable water bottle organizer and this tumbler lid hook organizer.

Organizing Your Kid’s Outfits for Easy Mornings

Every minute counts in the morning when you have to catch the bus or beat the bell to school.

If your kids are anything like mine, getting dressed in the morning can either be super easy or a lot of yelling to hurry up.

One of the ways we’ve helped make the mornings run smoother is to have our kids pick out their outfits for the week every Sunday.

This helps them (and us) feel good about what they are wearing to school each day and be able to take as much time as they need to choose the perfect outfit.

It also helps us review the week to know what activities we need to be prepared for.

Our favorite wardrobe organizing essential for setting the week up right is a 5-shelf weekly clothes organizer or if you need something more heavy-duty, this over-the-door organizer is great too.
